Recensione: RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS – “Return of the Dream Canteen”
Il troppo stroppia? Non esageriamo. Se c’è un esubero di creatività perché contenerla, dopotutto? Se poi ti chiami Red Hot Chili Peppers, può addirittura balzarti in testa un’idea.
Tipo mandare all’aria quell’usanza dell’attesa estenuante tra un disco e l’altro a cui ci siamo tristemente abituati – soprattutto con le band di un certo peso storico – e riversarla su due album da far uscire a breve distanza. Perché no, se c’è una possibilità anche solo remota di duplicare un successo planetario come quello di “Blood Sugar Sex Magik”? Forse perché in ugual misura esiste il rischio di un altro “By The Way”? Possibile. Ma i Red Hot Chili Peppers se ne fregano di trionfi o fallimenti, di quello che il pubblico si aspetta o teme. Loro hanno voglia di suonare e lo fanno. Ed ecco quindi che “Return of The Dream Canteen” vede la luce dopo soli 6 mesi da “Unlimited Love”: un disco energico, entusiasta, in cui si avverte tutta la voglia di suonare dei quattro peperoncini.
Cosa c’è di nuovo? Il (ri)ritorno di Jack Frusciante, cosa che poi tanto nuova non è. Sembra ormai quasi rito rassicurante – segno che la band è viva – l’entra/esci/entra/esci del chitarrista più mobile della storia. E se ad un certo punto resta troppo, forse è segno che qualcosa non va. Quindi meglio che vada e che torni. Perché quando torna, si sente.
Questo è un disco dell’entusiasmo, del divertimento, della voglia di suonare e di esagerare. E’ un lavoro indubbiamente barocco ed eccessivo, che a volte sembra andare un po’ troppo “fuori pista” rispetto al tracciato originale, ma comunque il prodotto di una band che ha ancora qualcosa da dire e non si è stancata di essere sulla scena. “Return of the dream canteen” è un disco che non sposta di una virgola il lavoro ormai quarantennale dei quattro, non aggiunge nè toglie nulla eppure intrattiene egregiamente per 1 ora e 15 minuti.
E forse ora Frusciante può di nuovo uscire di nuovo, basta che poi torni.
