ELTON JOHN un cofanetto di rarità del periodo 1965-1971 e B-Sides dimenticate
Elton John annuncia un nuovo progetto discografico che esplora il suo sconfinato repertorio con Rarità del periodo 1965-1971, B-Sides dimenticate e Deep Cuts scelte personalmente dallo stesso Elton.
IL COFANETTO
Il cofanetto è un’approfondita ricerca attraverso il vasto catalogo di Elton, “Elton: Jewel Box” (in uscita il 13 novembre) comprende infatti rarità dai primi anni del suo viaggio musicale insieme a Bernie Taupin, B-sides scelte da 30 anni di registrazioni e canzoni da lui stesso citate nel suo libro di memorie ‘Me’, best seller uscito lo scorso anno ed acclamato da tutta la critica.
Il box set comprende uno splendido libro con copertina rigida e gli 8 dischi raccolti in appositi slipcase. L’opera è divisa in varie sezioni ed ogni sezione è accompagnata da note bio-discografiche, inclusi i personali commenti canzone per canzone di Elton per ‘Deep Cuts’. Le edizioni in vinile saranno tre, tutte con vinile nero e confezione gatefold: 4LP per ‘Deep Cuts’ (la sezione curata dallo stesso Elton), 3LP per ‘Rarities And B-Sides’ e 2LP ’And This Is Me…’. L’audio è stato rimasterizzato agli Abbey Road Studios da Sean Magee.
IL PRIMO BRANO
Il primo brano che viene presentato oggi e disponibile digitalmente è “Sing Me No Sad Songs”.
Il brano inedito è stato scritto e registrato come demo della band nel 1969.
IL COMMENTO DI ELTON
Tornare indietro alle varie fasi della mia carriera in modo così dettagliato per ‘Jewel Box’ è stato un vero piacere.
Ascoltando nuovamente queste tracce perdute, è difficile capire quanto io e Bernie fossimo prolifici agli esordi. Le canzoni sono nate grazie alla nostra collaborazione e la band era semplicemente incredibile in studio. Voglio sempre andare avanti con tutto ciò che faccio e guardare al futuro, ma il tempo avuto a disposizione durante il lockdown per fare il punto e ripercorrere questi momenti è stata una gioia. Sono anch’io un vero collezionista di dischi e questo progetto mi ha davvero entusiasmato: non potrei essere più contento del livello di qualità che offre un cofanetto così accurato e costruito con amore. Sono sicuro che ai miei fan piacerà tanto quanto piace a me”.

Disco 1 & 2 “Deep Cuts”
Una selezione curata personalmente da Elton. Il box set book include un commento canzone per canzone di Elton John di tutti i brani di “Deep Cuts”.
Disco 3, 4 e 5 Rarities 1965 -1971
I demo di Elton degli anni ’60 e dei primi anni ’70, la musica che ha cementato le basi dell’iconica collaborazione di Elton John e Bernie Taupin. Il periodo inedito, pezzo mancante della sua illustre carriera. Il giornalista-scrittore Daryl Easlea racconta questa affascinante storia con il contributo dei testimoni di quel particolare momento. Questi tre CD comprendono 65 brani, molti dei quali conservati gelosamente negli archivi per più di 50 anni. La maggior parte di questi demo sono state registrati durante session precedenti la firma di un contratto discografico da parte di Elton John. Tra questi brani sono inclusi anche la prima canzone mai scritta da Elton e il suo debutto su un disco (“Come Back Baby” -1965), la prima composizione di Elton e Bernie (“Scarecrow” – 1967) e il demo piano/voce di alcune delle canzoni più famose dei primi album di Elton John. La
confezione contiene anche rari artwork e repliche dei manoscritti dei i testi originali.
Disco 6 & 7 B-Sides 1976-2005
Brani non contenuti negli LP, B-Sides, collaborazioni ed altre rarità mai pubblicate integralmente. 36 gemme che hanno ora la possibilità di brillare, 17 delle quali precedentemente pubblicate solo in vinile ed ora disponibili per la prima volta in digitale.
Disco 8: And This Is Me…
Contemporaneamente all’uscita in UK dell’edizione paperback ed aggiornata di ‘Me’, la terza sezione del box set celebra le canzoni citate nel libro Elton, chiudendo il Jewel Box con “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again”, il duetto con Taron Egerton, vincitore dell’Oscar 2020.
