Taylor Swift e Madonna sono le protagoniste dei MTV Video Music Awards 2026, andati in scena al Peacock Theater di Los Angeles con Snoop Dogg alla conduzione.
Swift ha conquistato il premio più importante, Video of the Year per The Fate of Ophelia, oltre a Best Direction per Opalite e all’inedito MTV VMA Artist Director Honors, consegnato da Dakota Johnson. Nel corso della serata ha dedicato il premio per il Video dell’anno a Dolly Parton, definendola «l’ultimate showgirl».
Il bottino più consistente è però quello di Madonna, che porta a casa sette premi, tra cui Artist of the Year, Best Album per Confessions II, Best Collaboration insieme a Sabrina Carpenter per Bring Your Love, oltre a Best Longform Video, Best Choreography, Best Cinematography e Best Dance. Madonna e Carpenter avevano aperto la cerimonia proprio con una performance del brano.
Tra gli altri premi principali, LISA ha vinto Best Pop per Dream, mentre Sienna Spiro è stata eletta Best New Artist. BTS hanno conquistato Song of the Year e Best Group. Durante la serata è stato inoltre assegnato ai Nirvana il Video Vanguard Award, ritirato da Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic e Pat Smear.
La cerimonia ha ospitato anche gli omaggi a Dolly Parton, affidato a Kacey Musgraves, e a George Michael, con le esibizioni di Raye, Sombr e Teddy Swims.
