Nuova edizione per “No Exit” un pezzo fondamentale della storia dei Blondie.
BMG pubblica la No Exit Deluxe Edition, la versione rimasterizzata e ampliata dell’album che nel 1999 sancì il ritorno di Debbie Harry, Chris Stein, Clem Burke e Jimmy Destri dopo 17 anni di silenzio.
Il progetto è accompagnato da The No Exit Interrogation Tapes, un corto firmato Rob Roth che cattura l’ironia tagliente e l’alchimia creativa di Debbie e Chris, restituendo il sapore di una band che non ha mai smesso di essere avanti.
Era importante che questo disco restasse, prima di tutto, una ricerca creativa,” racconta Debbie Harry. “Non pensavamo ai tour o alla nostalgia: volevamo solo fare nuova musica.”
Jimmy Destri ricorda la genesi di quella rinascita:
Siamo ripartiti da zero, in uno studio minuscolo su Ludlow Street. Solo noi quattro, niente basso. Ed è bastato: suonava ancora come noi.”
Per la prima volta su vinile, la Deluxe Edition include la hit globale “Maria”, classici come “Nothing Is Real But the Girl” e “Under the Gun”, e remix come “No Exit” (feat. Coolio & Loud Allstars) e “Maria (Ether Dub Mix)”. A completare la tracklist, la rarità “Hot Shot”, finora disponibile solo in Giappone, ora rielaborata da David Wrench (David Byrne, The Pretenders, Frank Ocean).
Il restauro è firmato da Tommy Manzi e Steve Rosenthal, con mastering di Jessica Thompson. Anche l’immaginario visivo torna a nuova vita grazie al direttore creativo Rob Roth, che aggiorna le atmosfere notturne e decadenti immortalate nel leggendario club newyorkese Mother, dove nacque l’artwork originale.
IL DISCO
Pubblicato nel 1999, No Exit fu un ponte tra l’energia punk delle origini e una nuova sensibilità pop, capace di attraversare generazioni. L’album divenne un successo planetario, spinto dal ritorno al numero 1 in UK di “Maria” — esattamente vent’anni dopo “Heart of Glass”.
Questa nuova edizione arriva oggi con un valore aggiunto: il ricordo di Clem Burke, scomparso di recente, la cui batteria precisa e febbrile vibra ancora in ogni traccia. Un ritorno che sa di rinascita, memoria e pura energia Blondie.
